JACKSON, MS – December 11, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — According to representatives from the Mississippi Children’s Museum (MCM), they have reached 87 percent of their $24.5-million goal, and construction is underway.

“It is with great excitement that we begin construction on the Mississippi Children’s Museum, which is scheduled to open in 2010,” said Susan Garrard, executive director of MCM. “None of this would have been possible without all of our donors and volunteers. They are making this dream a reality as we embark on building one of the premier children’s museums in the United States.”

The Junior League of Jackson is assisting the effort with volunteers, as well as financial support through a donation of $2 million. Other $2-million donors include Jim and Donna Barksdale and the Lucky Day Foundation. The Bower Foundation donated $1 million.

Jackson-based Fountain Construction began work on MCM after being selected as the contractor in early November. At peak construction, more than 200 people from across the state will be working to build the museum.

The museum will be located in LeFleur’s Bluff State Park adjacent to the Museum of Natural Science in Jackson. It will encompass 40,000 square feet, and is designed to provide a unique and exciting educational experience for all children. For more information, visit www.MCM.ms.
