MHC to Hold Homebuyer Fair in Marks

-

Attendees Will Receive Valuable Information about Buying and Owning a Home

Marks, MS – June 18, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC) will hold a free Homebuyer Fair on June 30th, 2009 at the Community House on Pecan St. in Marks, MS from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.. The fair will be hosted by MHC, Quitman County Community Development Organization, and USDA/Rural Development. Representatives of the host organizations will answer questions and provide valuable information about affordable homebuying programs, credit scores, and the homebuying process in general.

According to Dr. Ben Mokry, Senior Vice President of MHC, “We offer safe and effective programs such as the Mortgage Credit Certificate and the Downpayment Assistance program that help Mississippians purchase homes affordably.” Hosts will also be on hand to discuss preparing for the homebuying process. “Our affiliates statewide offer free credit counseling and homebuyer education courses which help demystify the process and prepare Mississippians for the financial responsibility of owning a home,” Mokry added.

Bernard Handy with the Quitman County Community Development Organization emphasized the importance of Homebuyer Fairs to local residents: “Homebuyer fairs are important to our area because there’s not a lot of knowledge about the home buying process. Many people don’t think they can buy a home when in fact it’s easier than they think.” Counseling agencies will be available to those who fear their credit score would keep them from purchasing a home. “Some people think bad credit will keep them from buying a home. Sometimes it’s a matter of sitting down with [a counselor] and working on weak areas in their credit history,” said Handy.

Anyone interested in the upcoming Homebuyer Fairs or who wishes to learn more about the Mississippi Home Corporation should contact MHC at 800-544-6960, Bruce Bolen at 662-578-8045, ext. 4, or Sherry King or Bernard Handy at 662-326-4000.

The Mississippi Home Corporation was created by the State in 1989 to serve as the State’s Housing Finance Agency. In that capacity, MHC administers the Mortgage Revenue Bond program and the Housing Tax Credit program, among others. MHC’s mission is to enhance Mississippi’s long-term economic viability by financing safe, decent, affordable housing and helping working families build wealth.
