William R. “Rusty” Miller, a real estate developer from Fairhope, Ala., was sentenced today in federal district court in Gulfport, Miss., for the unpermitted filling of wetlands near Bay St. Louis, Miss., in violation of the Clean Water Act, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Robert G. Dreher of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis for the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Maureen O’Mara of the EPA’s Criminal Program in Mississippi.

The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) joined representatives from the insurance industry, housing industry, Mississippi Department of Insurance, and members of the state Legislature on Apr. 2 to celebrate the ceremonial signing by Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant of a new law that will strengthen building safety in the state. The landmark legislation (SB 2378) creating a state building code law, which will help improve public safety, make homes stronger and protect property values

Mississippi’s citizens can have more confidence in the strength and resilience of their new homes and also potentially save money on insurance premiums with the signing of Senate Bill 2378 today, creating mandatory statewide building codes, if local leaders decide to operate under the new law
