Residents Invited to Learn More about Benefits and Process of Owning a Home

Louisville, MS – October 21, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Residents of Winston and the surrounding counties who are interested in purchasing a home are invited to attend a free homebuyer fair on Monday, October 25, 2010, at the Winston County Extension Office, 460 Vance Street in Louisville, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. hosted by The Mississippi Home Corporation, the Winston County Self-Help Cooperative (WCSHC), the NAACP Winston County Branch, Regions Bank, and Bancorp South. The homebuyer fair will be open to the public and provide attendees the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of homeownership and the home buying process.

“Homebuyer fairs like this one provide families with current information to make prudent business decisions,” explained WCSHC President Frank Taylor. “Although the financial markets have been unstable, there are many families seeking to purchase new homes, and through our partnership with MHC, we can help their dreams come to fruition,” he added.

“The Winston County Self Help Cooperative works to help save rural communities and generate income from farm enterprises,” said Taylor, who sees the homebuyer fair as an extension of the Cooperative’s broader mission. “The cooperative provides financial literacy through partnership with FDIC and local banks. We also offer computer trainings for the community at large and enrichment classes for youth.”

Representatives of the host agencies and lenders such as Regions Bank and Bancorp South will be available to answer questions about buying and owning a home, credit scores and credit counseling services, and to provide information and offer advice on achieving the dream of homeownership. Anyone interested in the upcoming Homebuyer Fair or who wishes to learn more about the Mississippi Home Corporation should contact MHC at 800-544-6960 or Winston County Self Help Cooperative at 662-803-0635.

The Mississippi Home Corporation was created by the State in 1989 to serve as the State’s Housing Finance Agency. In that capacity, MHC administers the Mortgage Revenue Bond program and the Housing Tax Credit program, among others. MHC’s mission is to enhance Mississippi’s long-term economic viability by financing safe, decent, affordable housing and helping working families build wealth.
